Kolkata Travel

Calcutta or Kolkata is the commercial capital of east India. The former capital of the British Government in India, the city still bears a reflection of the British influence in each of its aspects.

Though a bit untidy in its slum areas, the city in its poshest areas can be counted amongst the most cleanest and well maintained cities of India. The people of this 'city of joy' are known for their lively lifestyles and the love of sports, especially football (soccer) and cricket. Amongst the most sought after tourist destinations in Calcutta are the Victoria Memorial, Marble Palace and the Indian Museum.

Owing to its proximity to the sea, the climate in Calcutta is uniform throughout the year with not much difference in temperature during the summer and winter season, whereas the humidity levels can climb to unbearable heights during summer and monsoon season.

The temperature hovers between 12 to 27 degrees during summers and 24 to 38 during winters. The best time to visit the city is between October and March.

Darjeeling Travel

There's more to Darjeeling than just velvet green hills and plush tea plantations. Located in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal, Darjeeling is known for its abundant natural beauty and its closeness to the Himalayan massifs. Though the Toy Train happens to be the biggest attraction for travellers visiting here, there are a number of other things that need to be explored.

After you have done with the tea plantation tours, you can spend some good quality time with the Gorkhas, the locals in Darjeeling. Interact with them, watch their lifestyle and finally sit with them to listen to the heart-touching Gorkhali songs. Besides, you can also plan to enjoy some wonderful treks where you will actually come in close contact with nature that reigns here supreme.

The climate of Darjeeling remains pleasant round the year except for a few months during monsoons. Summer season witnesses temperatures hovering between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius while winters can be cold with temperatures dropping down to as low as 2 degrees. Monsoon season arrives during May end and the city is deluged by heavy rainfalls. The best time to visit Darjeeling are the months from March to May and September to November.

Guwahati Travel

The capital of Assam, Guwahati is situated in the eastern part of India on the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra river, which besides being an important source of life support often becomes a major peril during the times of monsoon when it regularly overflows and floods the entire city.

The gateway to north east India and its commercial centre, Guwahati comes from the words Guwa and Hat which means a market for the betel nut. The Brahmaputra dissevers the city into two halves, the southern part being an unplanned and chaotic sprawl while the northern half developing into a well planned and idyllic society.

Like most of the other cities in the region, Guwahati has also somewhat remained separate from the rest of the country, lending it a secluded charm and a tinge of exciting flavour.

Climate is a significant factor for the residents of Guwahati as also for tourists visiting the region. Summers in Guwahati witness high temperature and extremely high humidity with the deluge of rain making normal life come to a standstill. Summers, therefore, is a time best avoided for a visit. Winters, which is also the time of celebration, are cool and pleasant. The best time to visit the region is from October to April.
