In
India food is seen as a gift of the gods and as such it is treated
with respect. Based on pragmatic medical precepts evolved over
centuries of experimentation and observation, Indian food is aimed
at nourishing the body and is pleasing to the mind and eyes.
Ingredients of each meal is based on six rasa or flavours – sweet,
salty, bitter, astringent, sour and pungent – each ingredient
believed to have particular physical benefit on application of the
right proportionate use.
Day 01 ARRIVE DELHI
Arrival in Delhi. You will be met by our representative and
transferred to your hotel – Hotel Maurya.
Overnight at Delhi.
Day 02 IN DELHI
Morning meeting with the Head Chef at the Hotel Maurya, who will
brief you on Indian cuisine. Later proceed to the local market to
buy Indian Spices. Rest of day free, until you return to the Hotel
Maurya for Dinner at the Dum Pukht Restaurant. The
traditional Indian style of serving by course has been revived at
the Dum Pukht.
Overnight at Delhi.
Day 03 IN DELHI
After breakfast at the hotel, proceed for a full day sightseeing
Tour of Old and New Delhi. A highlight of the days tour will be
a cycle rickshaw ride along the narrow lanes of the Chandni Chowk
where you will experience the everyday life in Old Delhi. You will
be taken to the Spice Market, dry fruits market and also visit the
“Parantha Wale Galli” (Indian clay oven baked bread). Tonight you
will visit the Chor Bizarre Restaurant for a cooking
demonstration and to experience the Kashmiri Wazwan cuisine (typical
of North India), prepared by one of Delhi’s most experienced chefs.

Day 04 DELHI - LUCKNOW
This morning transfer to New Delhi railway station to board the
Train for Lucknow. On arrival you will be met and transferred to
your hotel.
Afternoon sightseeing Tour of Lucknow – the City of Gardens
and the 18th century capital of the Nawab Wazirs and the
centre of culture and tradition. Visit the great Imanbara, Jama
Masjid, Picture Gallery, The Clock Tower, Roomi Darwaza, Residency
and Dilkusha Gardens.
This evening you will witness a Cooking Demonstration of Dum
Pukht Cuisine followed by Dinner at Nawab’s Residence. Those who
are adventurous can also try the Lucknowi Pan!
Overnight at Lucknow.
Day 05 LUCKNOW - VARANASI
This morning after an early breakfast, transfer to the Lucknow
railway station to board the Train for Varanasi. On arrival you will
be met and transferred to your hotel. Afternoon Excursion to
Sarnath, the fabled place where Lord Buddha delivered his first
sermon to his disciples, expounding the principles of Buddhism. In
the evening take a stroll on the streets of the old city, which is
famous for it's bazaars full of 'jalebis', sweetmeats and a myriad
variety of 'kachoris'. You can see how the local kiosks make these
items and sell them to the local people.
Overnight at Varanasi.
Day 06 VARANASI - AGRA
In the early morning take a Boat-Ride on the holy River
Ganges. Return back to your hotel. After breakfast, sightseeing
Tour of Varanasi City visiting the Bharat Mata Temple (which
features a large relief map of India in marble), Durga Temple, Tulsi
Manas Mandir, Banaras Hindu University (which has an Art Gallery)
and the mosque of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, built on the side of the
ancient Kashi Vishwanath Temple. Late afternoon transfer to Varanasi
railway station to board the Overnight Train to Agra.

Day 07 IN AGRA
On arrival at Agra you will met and transferred to your hotel.
Morning visit The Agra Fort, built by Emperor Akbar over the
years 1565 – 1573, was a maze of courtyards, mosques, and private
chambers. Most of the buildings originally built by Akbar were
destroyed and were replaced by his grandson Shah Jehan. The Taj
Mahal,was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan, in memory of
his beloved Queen Mumtaz Mahal. This beautiful mausoleum is built of
pure white marble and is an architectural masterpiece. In the
evening witness a Magic Show followed by Dinner at The Mughal
Room, the roof top restaurant at Hotel Clarks Shiraz, to taste
Mughal cuisine – a truly distinctive style of cooking. Some of the
traditional Mughal dishes are Biryani (a dish of meat and rice),
Rogan Josh (hot lamb curry cooked in butter and spices), and Murga
Musalam (pieces of chicken cooked in white cashew and almond sauce).
The most popular Mughal sweet dishes are Carrot Halwa and Shahi
Tukra.
Overnight at Agra.
Day 08 AGRA - FATEHPUR SIKRI - JAIPUR
After breakfast drive to Jaipur (250 kms
and approx 5 hrs), en-route visiting Fatehpur Sikri, the
deserted capital of Mughal India. After the visit continue on to
Jaipur. On arrival check into your hotel. In the royal
kitchens of Rajasthan, as well as in most other states, food was a
very serious business and raised cooking to the level of an
art-form.
Tonight’s Dinner at the Peshawari / Jal Mahal Restaurant in
the Rajputana Hotel, will bring you a taste of desert cuisine, with
its very own exclusive ambience.
Overnight at Jaipur.
Day 09 JAIPUR.
Morning visit to the Amber Fort. The Amber Fort, the capital
of the erstwhile state of Jaipur until 1728 is perched on a hill. We
will take an Elephant Ride up to the Fort.
Lunch at a typical Rajasthani Theme Restaurant
which also has a Turban Museum. Here part of the menu will be served
to you and the rest of the Indian traditional dishes & breads will
be prepared in front of your table and served direct from the frying
pans. After lunch you will be taken on a sightseeing tour of
Jaipur City visiting the City Palace, the Palace of Winds (Hawa
Mahal), and a drive around the Pink City. This evening
you will be taken to the experience the rich warmth and rustic charm
of a typical Rajasthani Village at Chokhi Dhani.
Later experience a special traditional
Rajasthani thali sit-down dinner.
Overnight at Jaipur.
Day 10 JAIPUR - DELHI
After breakfast, drive to Delhi. Upon arrival you will be taken to
the Bukhara Restaurant in the Maurya Hotel for your Farewell
Dinner. This restaurant specializes in the robust cuisine of the
North-West Frontier. After a wonderful Farewell Dinner,
transfer to the International Airport to board your flight back
home.
